Efacec concludes participation in SuSTAINABLE R&D project

November last, the 11th SuSTAINABLE project consortium meeting took place in Évora, Portugal. This meeting had the participation of the project officer (PO) from the European Commission, DG Energy for research & innovation. The PO was presented with the project results and several demonstration sites.

Efacec participated and contributed to the project by developing several functionalities, such as coordinated voltage control, adaptive protection setting and advanced local distribution grid monitoring / state-estimation. The former is installed at the EDP’s primary HV/MV substation of Montemor and permits to optimize the estimation and improve observability of the MV level leveraging information from smart meters. Also, the voltage control functionality was deployed at the distribution transformer controller level (MV/LV secondary substation), and allows to mitigate the voltage profile volatility issues in the presence of high penetration of distributed energy resources (DER).

The aim of this project was also to endow the network active players with new parameterizations, calculation and communication of set-points on order to improve power quality, dynamically adapt protection schemes and maximize the value added by storage devices and volt/VAr control. The project was successfully completed last March. The final convention session took place in Lisbon at EDP’s headquarters.
