San Francisco Municipal Transit Authority chooses Efacec ACS’s SCADA System

The San Francisco Municipal Transit Authority (SFMTA), as part of its Third Street Light Rail Program has issued Contract 1260R titled "Muni Metro System Integrated Systems Replacement Project".

This $26 million project was awarded to the Prime Contractor, Blocka Construction. Efacec ACS was awarded a $1.498M USD subcontract to provide the following turnkey products and services:

Upgrade the existing PRISM SCADA system to a dual LAN decentralized server based system

Provide a video wall system for the Lennox St. Operations Control Center

Apply Dynamic Network Topology Modeling to the SCADA system for enhancement of Operational Visualization

-

Increase User Access and support new Remote User Types

-

Provide enhanced visualization tools that integrate system information with Google maps-based displays

All work is to be accomplished at the Operations Control Center at Lennox St., the Power Control Center at Alameda St. and the Traffic Control Center at Market Street.

This sub-contract with Blocka Construction was signed in April. Phase 1 of the project (fiber Installation, etc.) was implemented from April through September 2013. Phase 2 (includes Efacec’s Motive Power SCADA Upgrade) begins in September of 2013 and is scheduled for completion in September 2014.

Established by voter proposition in 1999, the SFMTA, a department of the City and County of San Francisco, oversees the Municipal Railway (Muni), parking and traffic, bicycling, walking and taxis. With four modes of transit, Muni has approximately 700,000 daily passenger boardings. More than one million people traverse the city each day and rely on the SFMTA to ensure safe and reliable travel by transit, walking, bicycling, taxi and driving.
