EDP orders smart grids solution from Efacec

Efacec Automation has received an order from EDP, the Portuguese Distribution Operator, for the supply of a smart street lighting management solution.

The order comprises a system for street lighting (SL) control through the eLumen platform.

The eLumen platform is responsible for the operational management of SL, either at the level of parameterization and SL control, as well as its monitoring (states, anomalies, register of historical events e energy consumption).

With this solution EDP will be able to:
   • reduce SL energy consumption and consequently decrease CO2 emissions,
   • substantially reduce the maintenance costs, through the timely detection of SL problems,
   • provide third-party SL system operators a friendly web platform to efficiently manage
      SL circuit under their responsibility,
   • maintain a single shared platform for SL management.

The scope of supply includes platform, installation of servers and, in a first phase, the connection to all MV/LV substations of Évora city, in order to control the city street lighting. After the successful installations in this city, the project will roll-out in other cities, namely in Oporto and Lisbon.

Multiple orders from Latin America market, through Efacec branch in Brazil
During the third quarter, Automation business unit of Efacec do Brasil received a set of important orders at the transmission and distribution segments, and it has also registered the first order for electric vehicles (EV) charging infrastructure management.

USP and EDP – Electric vehicles charging management platform

M Converge interface

Efacec received the first order in the Brazilan market, from EDP and USP, to supply the electric vehicles smart charging managing platform by providing M Converge and G Smart devices. The University of São Paulo in partnership with EDP is conducting a study to estimate the impact of electric cars on the power grid of the city. Once the EV loads are not constant, they can cause peak loads on the grid, mostly because this system consumes up to 24 kWh. M Converge will assure all the info needed for system impact analysis.

GV do Brazil Steel Industry and Trade Ltd. and CTEEP – Automation Project
for 230 kV Substation

Efacec received an important order from Simec for the supply of the automation systems featuring protection and control for the substation (230 kV) that will supply the energy to the Steel Industry GV do Brazil, and also for the line that interface the CTEEP utility.

EDP Bandeirante – ETD Urbanova 88/13.8 kV Substation

Efacec received an order to provide the automation and protection system for the Urbanova substation. The solution will is based on the Series 420 protections and control and acquisition IED, including feeder protection, transformer differential protection and capacitor bank protection, all integrated on the CLP 500 platform, over IEC 61850 standard.

COELCE – Automation Systems for eight 69/13.8 kV Substations

Efacec received an important order to provide the automation systems, featuring protection and control for eight 69/13.8 kV substations (Macaoca, Pedra Branca, Centro, Eusébio, Ipu, Paracuru, Juazeiro do Norte II and Sobral). The solution is based on the Series 420 protections and control and acquisition IED, including feeder protection, transformer differential protection and capacitor bank protection, all integrated on the CLP 500 platform, over IEC 61850 standard.

AMPLA – Automation Systems for 17 substations of 138/69/34.5/13.8 kV

Efacec received an important order to provide the automation systems, featuring protection and control for 17 substations of 138/69/34.5/13.8 kV (Farol São Tomé, Arsenal, Italva, Macaé, Itaperuna, Vila Nova, Santo Antonio de Pádua, Angra dos Reis, Arraial do Cabo, Búzios, Entroncamento Rio da Cidade, Itamarati, Jacuacanga, Macabú, Magé, Porto Carro, and Rocha Leão). The solution is based on the Series 420 protections and control and acquisition IED, including feeder protection, transformer differential protection and capacitor bank protection, all integrated on the CLP 500 platform, over IEC 61850 and DNP 3.0 protocol.

AMPLA – Rio de Janeiro – Replacement of Electromechanical Relays

Efacec received an order to expand 12 line bays of 138 kV in seven substations (Rio da Cidade, Rocha Leão, Angra dos Reis, Jacuacanga, Macabú, Magé and Alcântara). All these new bays will be integrated at the already existent CLP 500 platform.
