Efacec Automation supplies SAS system for Mozambique

Efacec Automation was trusted with the supply of the new substation automation system (SAS), featuring metering, protection and control, for EDM’s Matambo 220kV transmission substation in the northern part of Mozambique.

The contracted scope of supply comprises the new substation automation, control and protection system to be installed at the 220/66/33 kV Matambo substation, including the system design and all its commissioning, as well as the supply of new metering units and the remote supervision and control from Tete substation.

This supply is integrated in a contract for the expansion of this important substation that feeds some of the biggest coal concessions in Mozambique, connecting Cahora Bassa to the 220 kV network. Site works will have to be developed with the substation under operation. The contract is led by the Saudi-based group NCC (National Contracting Company) that has selected Efacec Automation as a supplier for the substation automation, control and protection solution.

The CLP 500SAS system to be installed at the Matambo substations integrates Efacec’s UC 500E station server, HMI 500 for user interface, BCU 500 bay control units, Series 420 for transformer voltage control, and protection relays from third parties. At the substation level, the IEC 61850 standard will be implemented for seamless equipment communication and integration.

The Efacec’s CLP 500SAS platform combines unified Efacec relays, controllers and HMI with IEC 61850 and IEC 61113-3 open systems integration, from communications and scheme programming to engineering and management. It enables multiple field-proven system architectures together with standard function implementations and database, HMI or cabinet designs.

This new contract reinforce Efacec’s Automation position in Mozambique where Efacec has already supplied EDM with the SCADA/EMS system for its National Dispatch, as well as SAS systems for several substations.
