Efacec chosen to deliver automation solution for Norway

Efacec Automation is supplying Hafslund Nett Øst in Norway with a brand new substation automation system (SAS), based on CLP 500 platform. The present contract was obtained through an Efacec’s Norwegian business partner for this project - Nett Tjenester.

The Efacec SAS will be installed in three distribution substations: Spydeberg, Ørje and Aremark that are situated in the Østfold County. Hafslund Nett Øst (former Fortum Distribution) is among the 10 largest operators of the distribution grid in Norway with about 100,000 customers.

The scope of the project includes supply configuration and commissioning of a complete system based on CLP 500 platform. This platform is a unified automation solution for industrial applications, which includes an extended range of RTUs, protection relays, controllers, gateways and station SCADA/HMI products.

The system to be installed at each substation will include Efacec’s UC 500E station server, local HMI 500 for user interface, and protection relays from TPU 220 series. At the substation level, the IEC 61850 standard will be implemented for seamless equipment communication and integration. The supply further includes the communications with the remote SCADA carried out through the IEC 60870-5-101-NUC protocol, which has been already subject to the test and successfully concluded.

During the last October, factory acceptance tests (FATs) were performed and successfully concluded at Efacec facilities, in Portugal, and were attended by the customer and the partner. During the tests Efacec’s SAS solution effectively demonstrated compliance with the customer’s rigorous requirements.

This contract is of high importance to Efacec Automation, being the first achieved in the Northern European countries in the scope of automation solutions for distribution substations, in addition to already supplied project for the traction substations at the Light Metro of Bergen in Norway.
